I keep using the word Powerhouse to describe Ritzy Brian. She owns the stage. She sounds amazing. These three people play music together and they may well be headed towards a fairly high level of stardom. We'll see if one of the great songs on their latest release, "The Big Roar", gets a lift from a mainstream outlet.
This was my first full day back from the flu and I was exhausted, done shooting at The Fader Fort by FIAT after a great Wednesday lineup. Luckily, a good friend was nearby catering up dinner and I was able to take a moment out of the fray to relax, have a freshly grilled pork chop and veggies that were as close to home made as SxSW food on the go can be. I was tired. I finished eating and heard familiar chords hit the air. The unannounced guest at Fader was The Joy Formidable. I thanked Beau, press and photo wristbands allowing me to walk in and capture their performance. I remember my face melting a couple times, could have been the Tamiflu. Their set was an awesome blur.
So thanks go out to The Joy Formidable being unannounced and thanks go out to Beau for being a needed friend nearby or I would have missed it. Sometimes things work out...
